Arctic

We have broken our arctic gallery in to the following sections. Please feel free to download these pictures and use them in presentations etc. We do, however, request and thank you in advance for acknowledging our website and personnel accordingly.

  • Barrow- the largest settlement on the north slope of Alaska.
    • Biocomplexity- one of our largest research sites in northern Alaska is a large-scale flooding and draining experiment where we conduct a range of measurements.
    • Coastal Erosion- in collaboration with Jerry Brown and the Arctic Coastal Dynamics (ACD) program, we monitor coastal erosion along the Elson Lagoon coastline of the Barrow Environmental Observatory (BEO) near Barrow.
    • Snow melt and breakup- see a photographic time series of snow melt along the trail to the biocomplexity site and of Cakeater Lake taken from a webcam situated at Cakeater Road .
    • Festivities- the SEL crew celebrates Nalukatuk and Independence Day with the local people.
  • Atqasuk- one of only two inland villages on the north slope of Alaska.
  • Beringia- photographs from our Beringia land cover change project that visited the Russian far east and the Seward Peninsula and North Slope of Alaska.
  • Historical photographs- some of our research sites have a long research history and these photographs show what these sites used to look like.
  • Flora and Fauna- we are lucky to encounter a broad range of wildlife in the Arctic!
