Offices and Labs
Our offices and labs are located on the third and fourth floors of the Biology Building on the main UTEP campus in El Paso, Texas. Our field sensor and instrumentation testing area on the roof of the Biology Building is expected to be completed by Fall 2008. We also have access to several core facilities in the Biology, Bioscience, Geology and Engineering Buildings. The lab's "coffee shop" is located in the corridor on the fourth floor of the Biology Building. Our administrative unit, mail room and fax machine is situated in the Bioscience Building.
Offices:
We have a total of eight offices. Three offices are located in labs 325 (2) and 420 (1) and the other five are located on the fourth floor of the Biology Building. Offices are equiped with high-end workstations suitable for geospatial data analysis, printers and in some offices a scanner. Each office is also equiped with a high speed internet connection, phone, office tables, chairs and shelving units. Dr Tweedie's office also includes a meeting table and conference calling facilities.
Labs:
We have three labs in the Biology Building. In lab 325, we have established a geospatial data analysis and processing facility. This lab is shared with the Cybershare Center. The open-plan lab includes several large benches, whyteboards, and shelving units. There are two offices within this lab that house workstations used by our programming and GIS technical staff and students. Other workstations, a networked printer, and data storage devices are spread around the lab. The lab is connected to high-speed internet, wireless, and has a telephone and conference calling capacities. We welcome other students, staff and faculty from around the univeristy to use our geospatial lab.
Lab 420 on the fourth floor of the biology building is our main ecology lab. We store the majority of our field equipment and process a lot of our plant and soil samples in this lab. The lab also includes several desktop PCs and workstations, connection to high speed internet and wireless, and has a telephone. This lab also has a refigerator and freezer and a walk in cold room as well as several drying ovens.
Lab 409 is our engineering lab. This is the perfect place to cut metal and wood, solder wiring, and test sensors and assemble field and lab equipment. We have several large open work benches and side benches, two walk in cold rooms, and several shelving units. We have several field-ready laptops, wireless, gas, air, and water in this lab also. This lab is shared with the Cybershare Center.
Other:
We have our "coffee shop" set up in the corridor near our offices on the fourth floor. This includes pictures of our lab doing field work all over the world, a couch and of course our beloved coffee maker and microwave. This is a great area to share ideas and you can normally find us breaking for coffee around 10:30am.
Our administrative unit, mail room and fax machine is situated in the Bioscience Building.
